HMRC Take Aim at Solicitors

HMRC have just announced another of their campaigns, this time just for solicitors.

They are inviting brethren of the legal profession to come clean and declare taxable income that had previously been locked away in chambers.

I have yet to hear what data HMRC hold that would encourage you to come forward.  Past campaigns have been triggered by HMRC getting data on payments made to certain professions.  For example, a campaign aimed at getting doctors to voluntarily disclose followed HMRC getting hold of data from insurance companies showing what medical reports had been commissioned from which GPs.

If you are a solicitor, you need to give this proper consideration before the disclosure window closes on 9th March 2015.
